Interesting Elk Hunting Information
Elk are one of the most quintessential American trophy animals to hunt, one that most hunters strive to get in their sights. They are one of the largest species of deer and are found in North America, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Several species exist in the United States, including the Roosevelt elk, Tule elk, Manitoban elk, and Eastern elk, with the Rocky Mountain Elk being the most common. Hunters find elk hunting exhilarating and challenging in part because of the massive size of these deer. Bulls can weigh between 600 to 1000 pounds with cows being smaller. Another draw for elk hunting are their impressive antlers which are unique to each individual animal. Elk make a tremendous mount and hunting lodges and homes across America boast distinctive trophy bull mounts. Here at Cotton Mesa Ranch, our bulls average around 700 pounds. Our large breeding herds enjoy forest and forest-edge habitat, feeding on grasses, shrubs, and leaves.
